It is very interesting to see how the search engines wars will shape up in the years ahead.

I simply love Google as they are without doubt the best thing to happen since sliced bread. But that statement applies to where you are in the scheme of things. And how great they will stay is starting to unravel.

For those of you who were born recently, you'll find that there is a system of old money in place that does not want that scheme to change ever! The bigger the foundation, the more true that statement becomes.

Old money will always to find a way to monopolize as much of the trading buck as is possible. And this is why search engines scare the heck out of old money. Especially if you have a search engine that can determine where your cash can be spent.

In the old days, you had to pay for expensive Yellow Pages, TV and Magazine advertizing to get your brand known but a computer network [internet] can give small business just as much brand awareness for free [if your SEO really knows what he is doing].

So, selecting a search engine to personally use comes down to knowing where you will end up if you use it. A string of related companies [by ownership, co-ownership etc.] can create and promote a search engine that will bias all potential sales to their own group of websites.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Bing is an example of this as I have noticed Bing is started to list more smaller businesses these days. Maybe that because they are seeking the advertizing revenue too? Someone else can research that. But at this time, Google is starting to waver. It seems they are trying to please the old money crowd instead of simply returning clean good page results for any genuine business. They do have big and difficult job even without trying to give preferential leads to their income source but it seems weird no independent has bothered to come up with a unique search engine in all these years to rival the juggernaut. I really don't know why. It is obviously one of the most lucrative online activities. I am sure it would make a fantastic project for Uni Student across the globe to work on.

DuckDuckGo.com has an interesting twist on search results. They endeavor to re-interpret search results of the big guys and return a selection that is not weighted by favor. In other words, a more true actual search result. So, if you are wondering "how is my SEO work really performing?", then you should run your tests through this nifty search engine. They might become a power house to watch in the coming years.

Success through Link Building
How can you expect to have successful website if you dont use link building methods [gasp.. choke..]?

One of the most useless things you can do for your website is to listen to spam emails out of India that ask for reciprocal links. I get at least one of these requests every day. This usually takes the form of: "...and I was wondering if you are interested in exchange links, I'll place your link on my sites exactly here..."

In the last year and a half, I have only received one genuine and relevant request which I accepted.

What is a Valid Link Exchange Request
You can tell a valid link exchange request by checking the senders email. Is it from a real website? Is this the same website in the link?

Sometimes [by which I mean mostly], the email will come from a .com but ask you to link a .net or a totally different website. This gives the sender a one-way link from your honest site which helps to improve their PR ranking in Google. But you get a link from a page that has hundreds or thousands of other links by those who were also not so wise to this trick and this does nothing to your PR rating and in some cases, can even lower your ranking.

How then do i Build up Links to my site?
If you have a good site, and as time rolls by, people will find and link your data or services. You can nudge this along by asking suppliers or similar businesses to include a link to you on their site. The links must make sense. If you do gutter repairs on this side of town, you might share a link with another tradie on that side of town.

You can also join a group that talks about home repairs and post a link to your website on that forum [join one that allows this].

Though my site has hundreds of incoming links now, it was not that way when I started and I rank in the top 300,000 in the alexa.com list. I did this with only 2 or 3 inbound links at the time.

So dont place too much importance on this activity. Having someone like me to seo your website is a far better course of action to increase your online presence.

AussieAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18045148943529543944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6674561446410778737.post-40657477872044693762012-09-23T18:46:00.001-10:002012-09-23T18:46:29.845-10:00cheap and free websites with seo

There is definitely a push to get business into cheap and/or free websites that claim to have seo optimized code.

What actually lies behind many of these offers?
To get you business onto the internet so that you pay and pay.

If your website is not found by those searching the internet, then it doesnt matter how much you paid, it is wasted cash. Ideally, you'll be told you need to pay advertizing dollars to make it work. But you could do that anyway in papers and newsletters in your suburb and probably get much more sales anyway. So what's the use. Really?

Costing study for free websites
I did a costing study recently and found most free websites cost between 99 and 150 dollars a year. If you want this or that feature, it is usually an extra 60 per year. Some dont even come with a real email address or expect you to use an online service. To me, your email address should be post@mywebsite.com to look even half professional. I shudder when I get spam in my inbox from gmail or hotmail or similar claiming they are a legitimate business. How do you check it?

Websites I setup, design and host for small, micro and home business are mostly priced into this same bracket. But of course, you get real help [I even do it for you if you like] with getting your site up and going.

website builders
Another issue is that many expect you to design and build your business page. Though this may look good, most are so poorly formulated it is a miracle if anyone finds your website at all. I recommend using artisteer if you want to build your own site. I then take it apart and make the code effective for the search engines. You can buy the student demo for 50 bucks.

The only upside to website builders is that you can manage your pages a little easier. But in practice, I find that very few of these owners update their sites at all, so if you wanted a little up date here or there, I do it for free with my deals.

New websites and seo
But by far the biggest area of omission is having your site found by the search engines.

You can easily install statcounter.com's tracker to see how your website is really doing. This will tell you ifyou have a lemon website on your hands or not. Most likely, I can recreate your website for the same price as your are paying now [maybe even cheaper]. Then take another look at how the site is performing. If it is not better, work out some deal with me to make up for it. I doubt this would ever happen though.

I take pride in my work and I freely work with my clients to make sure they are being found. There is always other things you can do to help your website along. I discuss this on a personal level for your business. My recommendations are provided free to my customers as I like to see you do well.

In aussie, and a little while ago, someone at yellow pages told me they paid a chunk of cash to google and that yellow pages would start getting better serp presence as a result. Yeah, right. As if google would sell-out on the aussies and make their search engine crappy again. We had this problem a few years back with many other types of useless directories hogging the returned serps but they finally fixed it.

Or did they?

Let's look at this mentality at work here.

Yellow pages is a search engine [they wish], and when you search for a biz name in google oz, google thinks you want to search further search sites to find the biz you are looking for. Then why do aussies even bother to use google in the first place? Is google saying that if I have a business named "blah blah" that already has an official website called "blah blah", i need to go to yellow pages first who may or may not have a link to "blah blah's" official website.

I understand that a few aussies are not too bright, but most of us out here know that yellow pages has a website that we could use if we were chasing a directly listing and not the actual website.

But guess what? It seems to be true. I now have to dig past many useless directory listings again to find actual websites.

Now Bing is trying to be more sociable at the moment. And if google dont get their act together soon, I might start looking around for a search engine that gives me sensible data results. Now, I guess that Bing is mainly interested in stuffing their affiliated coffers but are willing to put this aside to get at the ad revenue cash. And google seems to be hell bent on personal profit over having a quality product that honestly became the envy of madison ave.

So where does this leave the small business? Time for someone to actually make another powerful search engine by the masses for the masses? It looks like we are getting to that point.

See, if you internet shoppers started to only shop at small business websites that offer good value and service, the billions going into the coffers of the unworthy would then [almost over nite] be spread out in a town near you. And local business owners are more sane that the organizations that hide unspent profits behind foundations and jobs and cash would again begin to flow in the western world.

SEO Basics.
SiteMaps, importance of for new websites.

When you first start a new website, you want the search engines to be able to find you and all the pages you have on your site that are for the pubic to see.

And this is very important from an SEO standpoint too.

The site map is an .xml file and is usually stored in the root of your website. For example, if your website was websiteadministrator.com.au , you should be able to find and view the sitemap.xml by entering www.websiteadministrator.com.au/sitemap.xml in your web browser. This is what search engines look for they want to know what pages you have on your site. If you do not have this file there, they may or may not find all your pages. So how and where can we get a sitemap?

How and where to get a sitemap.xml for your website
Use this link if you would like help in creating a site map (there are other useful tools on this page too), when the sitemap has been created, you then download the .xml file and then upload it to your directory root (usually the same folder/directory as that of your home page or index.html) at your website. In due course, the file will be found by the search engines.

If you want to be a little more efficient, you can inform google, yahoo and bing that the file is now there. If you know what a robots.txt file is, then add the link in their too! To do this you add a line exactly like:

SITEMAP: http://www.websiteadministrator.com.au/sitemap.xml

This of course is a little different for blogspot websites.

Our organic online seo course is free for you to do. And it will always remain so, at least for the next eight years, probably more. Follow each module correctly, and your page(s) will start to get busy in due course. The price for many is to be able to put up with my writing style which of course comes with some "know best" attitude, some "slanted and opinionated" writings, "added think" and other such nuances.

But the technique is all good and the more success you have on each point, the more success you will have. Many of you may be forced to use cms websites and as such are unable to compete fully against those that produce pure html. Don't fret too much over this point. Optimize what you can as these are the building blocks that make all your future seo efforts more effective.

Of course, some of you might want a little one-on-one with me to learn exactly how-to for your exact website and this of course is the paid path of the seo course. The price needed a little tweaking but is still very cheap for the opinionated learning experience.

The facebook recommended code is:

<fb:like href="" layout="button_count" show_faces="false" width="180" font="arial"></fb:like>

But if you want to get validation, you need to make this pure javascript, and then if you don't like the document write method, there is yet another way to around this too.

Visit our page on the Like Button Code page for the code which lists all 3 of these methods on the one page and a little extra data you should know about maximizing it's use in seo.

AussieAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18045148943529543944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6674561446410778737.post-11910509719852667082011-06-25T13:11:00.005-10:002011-06-26T15:17:46.988-10:00Number One in Google - Seo Guaranteed (Yeah, Right.)
Ever been guaranteed number one in Google? Or promised a top 3 listing?

This is so easy to achieve that it is like saying "mommy, mommy, i know how i can tell if i am a boy!" Well, almost as easy. And there is a lot of bunk flying around about what you do and do not need and what you must pay for in order to get the most coveted of position listings.

Like you "Must use the social networks" or "Must build quality links". These rules are not even anywhere close to being penultimate in the field of seo and thus are full of bunk.

Sure, ramblings the subject of social networks and link building are not without any merit at all, but as far as you getting a number one position goes, they have little to do with the shooting-fish-in-a-barrel like activity of getting a Google number one at the moment.

You see, most Seo's will not tell you about the geographical qualifier that goes along with this statement. The full statement should say, "We will get you a number one in google for your selected geographical area."

Just checking the result on your own computer is usually not a real test. Visit our page on the keyword meta tag and scroll down the first column 'til you see the links to Oz, Uk and Us and from there, do all the google testing you want in three different geographical areas (And these all break down into smaller zones too, but i can't demonstrate that here). You might be able to see if my example i talk about in the article there has come close to achieving number one in all three zones.

Then next time, you can ask your seo if he means numero uno in all locations if he promises such a thing. Getting a number one in multiple geographical locations (and there are many more) demands a little more talent than just putting a website on the net and linking it into google.

If you are new to seo, you might want to take the course while you are there, it is also free if you like. Of course, we are available for hire too.

Use of the Link Rel Tag in SEO Search Engine Optimization
There are a some Link Rel tags that can give your web page a little extra push which might be just what you are looking for in the race for a superior serp ranking.

This Rel tag defines the relationship of various links called by your html document.

By specifying these exactly can assist in the speed of rendering your page. If you are wondering which are the most important LinkRel tags and how they are used, then visit our page that briefly discusses how the Link Rel is used in HTML by the seo.
And for those that have been able to endure my writing style and have completed the earlier steps on your website, you are now going to start to do some real damage to your competition as you implement the data contained in this one.

keywords
I had to skip ahead of the planned agenda in this one and so it includes a section on keywords, by the end of this study module, you'll know exactly how to find them in your page. Plus i give a couple of little pointers on how and where to use them.

This module involves you editing your web page so why not fix any keyword positioning while you are at it?

online meta tag analyzer
Also included of course is an online meta tag analyzer and how you go about using it. You can check and test your pages and see if you have optimized them correctly.

Use this data and I will then be able to see your site start to rank higher in Alexa and in the Google Serps.

Next we will look at optimizing graphics formats. Don't you just hate it when an image takes forever to load? Well, we have a simple tool (free) for you to fix that problem and also a way to work out what type of image should be used and where.

Let's pretend that a web page is something that has always been there for as long as one can remember. Or perhaps since when you looked at your first web page in this life. And now imagine you would like to add a page or several hundred, or thousand to this resource. And then you might see that you are not the only one who would like to do exactly this. And this is something that successful search engines do not fail to see: that the intention of the internet is to expand at a rate that would potentially rival an entire universe or two on a daily basis.

If we have not done so yet, it will not be long before the time has come when the number of new new pages created and added each day to this internet will rival the number of stars that hover in the void. That same void which the earthling masses have affectionately termed as space and of which they are convinced is the binding nothingness and the entire woof and warp of the finite universe.

But it is only a minute portion of this planet's population that have thus far trained in the exact technologies and have acquired the needed skills and ability to attempt the domination of cyberspace through the creation of various sentient-like entities (server and/or client side pre-programmed instructions), or monopolistic websites if you prefer, that feed on or, are fed by those that have become mindless minions to that new {and few} self elected and self imposed higher masters that demand your subservience. And follow them you do.

What does this have to do with learning SEO?
The answer is more pertinent than you would think or perhaps even care to entertain but, nonetheless, is vital to any ongoing success. Because we do live in a world where decency between fellow beings places a distant second, not first. If you don't believe this, open any newspaper that talks on local or even geo-political events and there you will find evidence of a continuous insanity on the part of some to disrupt the lives of others through some mere happenstance that has caused them to be physically located as neighbors to any of these certifiable nut-cases. And that same disrespectful brand of mind also pervades the internet with their brand of what should be and what your role in their insidious design is to be. And the favorite tools of those that are insane are to keep everyone else in a state of poverty, ignorance and disease. If you wanted to invade a country, you can just buy up the hill in that other country and migrate your minions to live there. Then you own it. A bloodless victory. And each of these scenarios exist in some form or another in the cyberworld too. For specific geographical website traffic, the buying of a domain name in another country is a very easy way to infiltrate that country. And so, be it viruses, lack of correct server hardware or even not knowing that HTML is actually King, one can mimic in the cyberworld whatever goes on in the real world.

Do'h example
You might think that by purchasing soft drinks that contain sugar, you are avoiding products that contain aspartame derived products. Not so, in aussie, a number of supermarket soft drinks now contain both, sugar AND neotame (You have to click on "Nutritional information and ingredients" to see the inclusion of additive number 961, also don't forget to check out the link to "social responsibility") which is manufactured majorly from aspartame. A list of aussie numbers (naughty additives are colored red in the list) can be found here. So don't get duped by reading the word sugar and think that sugar is the only sweetener used. So don't forget to check the list to ensure that there is no hidden sweet addendum included as a surprise to your planned physical longevity.

Same as when many websites tell you that seo is an expensive, ongoing and needed cost. It has always been basic HTML and a while it is best to keep your site fresh (the ongoing part of the equation), once it is done, it does not need to be redone continuously at great expense unless you are re-branding or are in constant need of a major overhaul of your site.

The beginning of a successful SEO education.
So many of you will only want to SEO your website once and get the best possible standing from there on out. And to do this, you can't be dumb about it at the onset.

As this article states, there are those that are happy to walk all over you by either keeping you in the dark or by having you spend all your profit trying to make a profit. So step through our seo guide to website webpage fundamentals as these will provide you with the underlying structure needed to ensure your success.

Some people think that their job title should be more important than what it is and so they try and shift the meaning of things. Alas, but a word is just a word and that is how it is. That is, without getting into the semantics of words and symbols.

Now, i came up with a definition of Website Administrator and posted it on the front page of our website because all the definitions i could find listed in authoritative (and informal) sources all seemed to be inadequate or attempted to apply some spin on the definition to suit their own agenda. It actually took me a few months to string together a bunch of words that would concisely encompass and delineate the activity in it's entirety. But i think i got it down pretty well. This exercise gave me an inkling on why creating the English Oxford Dictionary was such a gargantuan task. For those that don't know, there is one Oxford Dictionary, the others are spawned from this single source. Aside from newer definitions which are continuously added or the other more recent published topical efforts which capitalize on the goodwill of the original historic masterpiece, it is a brilliant piece of work that will become a testament to the language of our time period.

Now we also have a new activity in the field of web design work known as SEO. And i would happily argue that if there were such a subject as taught in our schools as WebSite Administration, then Seo would not really be a separate subject (nor a separate term) but would merely be encompassed within the studies of what ever course teaches correct web page formulation and layout.

If a Website Administrator knew his business, he would already know how and what the search engines look for and of course he would include this in any wire frame design or web page he created. This makes the Seo redundant. Instead, we have a huge amount of money being funneled into SEO as if it were a new science when it fact it simply demonstrates that many of those in the industry who should know better actually don't and it is the customer who is double billed for this ignorance.

When i get bored, i sometimes go around the web and look at the code of websites and see what optimization techniques they use. And to understand what i see, let me tell you a story about modern educational techniques. Oh what right do i have to utter words on the subject on teaching? Well, I do hold two (actually three, but two are the same course, slightly different layout so i count it as only one) official teaching degrees and several years of full time experience in training others (adults) under my belt. I have even trained people in languages that i don't speak! It doesn't matter if you don't believe this, but it can be done. You just have to know how to spot when comprehension stops in a person.

Anyway, i was enrolled on one of the early computer programming courses offered to students in Australia, we didn't have certificate levels in those pre Win95 days, and i wanted to write a little DOS protected mode program which manipulated the PC speaker to add sound to DOS games. After a few months, i asked when we would learn to initialize the mouse pointer and was told we would not learn that on this course. I asked a friend at a local university doing a more esoteric and advanced programming course at what year level he would learn this, and his response was that you would only learn that on the job if needed, mouse and video modes were not at school. This was really a mute question, i already knew how to initialize the mouse with about twenty or so keystrokes using inline code (same with video modes too by the way, but by using assembly language, not inline code), but the point is that the school had no intention of enabling students to be truly effective or to arrive into a position where they would be able to venture forward on their own and create their own effective and saleable software. If you wanted advanced knowledge of computing, you were going to need to know how to self study. And not much has changed. If all the students currently on a web page training course were actually taught how to Seo their pages from the onset, then oh my, what a state the world would be in. All these long established businesses that have spent so much money in maintaining a superiority would loose their positions with-in half a year. All those over paid Seo companies would actually have to learn something on the subject rather than taking payment for work that a simpleton could do and achieve simply because of policy changes bought about by external forces and are actually results which are not really attributed to their own efforts but by mere happenstance of the events of others at this point in time.

So, the reason we need an Seo is because our Website Administrators and web page designers actually do not know how to set their pages up correctly in the first place. And this also means that in actual fact, your Seo is often better as a designer than the designer is himself., it is just that the seo does not have the formal training to know what he doing when it comes to design and so relies on the designer to put something their that he can then revamp. And this current mess is actually attributable to the intentional training of ignorance through omission.

Now, to understand where this is coming from, you should grab hold of a little book entitles "nobody dare call it treason" which was published many years ago and probably long out of print. The subject matter may or may not be true, that is up to you to decide, but the logic is sound. Most schools exist to train our working classes to remain working classes, not to train them to a point where they can then outsmart the older established businesses. So a part of educational system also relies on keeping the masses ignorant so as to maintain a status quo.

This is why you will find that some of the biggest businesses will assist with the preparation of study materials for many current official courses. Not that this is all bad. But training people in this way does lead to wholesale ignorance. I doubt that Mr. Gates would even know how to correct many portions of the Windows code anymore.

Now i am not going to say that i am more informed than you on the subject of Seo, but i will tell you that i am not about to tell you everything i know on the subject. Why? Because I don't see anybody else doing it and i would like to be able to offer those that pay me a little more than those that don't. I see lots of talk on content and tags but at the end of the day, there are really very few that are honestly effective. Some use some tricks more than others, and some invent newer tricks that are fleeting, not really the be all and end all of Seo but can possibly hold enough weight to cause some industries to think twice. But mostly just hype and which is why we are seeing the term Social Media springing up more than usual these days. Well, in all honesty, facebook sux and they are doing their bit to try to be the internet at this time. This occurs now and again so be on watch for the next facebook and twitter. 'Cause like any dog, they will have their day. They really offer very little benefit beyond many of the other person to person software that has been and those that are about to come yet. In fact, will come the day that people will all have their own websites with plug-in features that do exactly the same thing. The down side for big business is that we don't need javascript or flash enabled for our own home page to work and with these two points missing, it makes it harder for big business to horde simple marketing sales. In fact, the sooner people stop acting like sheep and start to ignore massive 'everybody is using it' sites and services, the sooner a cash balance will flow evenly through our world.

And i wouldn't worry too much about all this as it is still fully my intention to give you enough knowledge that will see you gain an excellent advantage over much of your competition. But i am not about to part publicly with everything i have come to know and understand over the years just so that big business can plow over the little guy. Even the opening notes on our free online Seo Course is enough for the little guy to cause concern to the bigger guys, but not enough for the bigger guys to do anything about it. Such is life.

If you are seeking some quality original content for leisure and lifestyle industries, then Julia Hebaiter is one qualified and experienced writer/editor you should know and hire. Starting with her own business ventures in the field of fine dining, she has personally come to know and write for many of Melbourne's best chefs & restaurateurs. But it doesn't end there. She is without doubt an excellent researcher and has written brilliantly on many popular attractions which span this great country from shows and events and unique businesses of interest. But I think she also draws some of her writing passion from her personal experiences like whitewater rafting, swimming with the dolphins, ballooning over the city and other such forays into the game of life. Not to forget the fine food and wine at some of the best addresses on the map.

With loads of articles already published in hard-copy and in website postings, she is well worth a little further research. You can view a large selection of Julia Hebaiter's online articles through the above link.

As if dazed and alone, the seo raises his wary hands. Fingers now out stretched and palms upturned, he shifts his gaze to the blood red tips where capillaries have exploded under an incessant and dedicated onslaught of a determined mind.

The smeared qwerty keys appear to scream as they beckon for the story to be told. "Hit me, Hit me" each key commands as yet another lone monitor pixel decides to forever surrender light for darkness. Like an ancient pleasant memory that was once happily etched and fondled but is now forlorn. Like the once popular website that has settled into oblivion for want of the misplaced word.
AussieAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18045148943529543944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6674561446410778737.post-46589363851981325322011-04-10T16:24:00.004-10:002011-04-10T18:23:26.310-10:00Using W3C to validate your CSS code in SEO
There tends to be a little area that is left out of web page seo and that area is online page validation of your code against W3C standards.
Even though Google doesn't include this step as a needed requisite for an SEO score, it can open the door to other areas which do effect your overall SERP position.
Most of the old modules are re-done and today should see the css module completed and my finally moving forward since i first started to promote the seo course.

But i thought i might give a rant or rave about Google places.

This is a needed business tool for those who would like to attract a local market. You will need to be able to confirm that you really have a business address (I'm in aussieland and the only option at the time was snail mail for confirmation).

Once you're in you can setup a bunch of interesting things for the local community including special deals and an overlay of the areas you service.

This of course gives you another means of generating traffic either into your website or into your doors. And of course this has an seo advantage to you. Also, there is a totally different set of seo rules for getting highly listed in dense population maps.

And how do we find Google Places? Google Google Places of course!

The beauty of this step is that you don't need to know much about html at all to use this step. Just copy and paste your web page url into the appropriate window and the validation machine does the rest. Then you can either work it out to fix it or have your webmaster fix it.
Just scroll down the page to Image Editing and download and install the file.

This inkscape software does a beaut job of rendering your fonts into all shapes and colors. You can even load in your own textures. The price? Freeware = Free.

But you wouldn't think so when you look at the quality graphics this program produces.

If we had a tool which could tell us if our website is popular today, and then tell us if we are popular again tomorrow, that would be a great tool..
This makes the setup of your statcounter alot easier because you can just copy and paste your IP right then and there.

You get a much clearer picture of your statistics if you filter out your own hits.

So i went back and threw in a little code that brings it up for you.
